I’ve been thinking about this over the past few years.

There was a time, when I was younger, where simply introducing a fact would end an argument.

People would realize that they didn’t know the fact.

Then they would change their perspective of the issue.

But somewhere along the way, we’ve lost this benefit.

And that benefit was that facts did matter.

They really did.

They made a difference.

Now, not so much.

We can supply a friend, family member, or stranger with a fact.

And we can see it in their face, that it can’t be true because it doesn’t fit my narrative face.

That is when the facts get attacked or diminished.

So, one could make the argument that facts don’t really matter anymore.

Because people are going to think what they want to think.

They are going to do what they want to do.

For me facts are still important. They help me to learn and grow.

But, I no longer feel the need to share facts with people whom I know are not going to change their mind.

I’ve changed my mind on many things over the years.

Hell, sometimes I’ve even changed them back.

I’m curious about you. Do facts still matter to you?
