Thoughts on Legacy versus being present

It is funny, that when we get older, we start to think about legacy.

I find it to be normal, natural, and maybe even a healthy way to sort through any current mortality issues.

I see people who spent so much time being worried about how people are going to remember them that they forget an important fact.

People are not going to remember you, if you aren’t present with them today.

So, my thinking is worry less about how you will be remembered after you die and more about how you are living your life today.

Here’s a fun exercise.

With the next 10 people you see, ask yourself some of these questions…

  • Am I seeing them?
  • Am I ignoring them?
  • Am I avoiding them?
  • Am I running towards them?
  • Am I engaging with them?
  • Am I listening?
  • Am I in or out of my comfort zone?
  • Am I starting a conversation or avoiding one?

More interactions = more memories now and later.

And don’t forget, they might die before you do.
